The Sakura trees at Spencer Smith Park represent the twinning of Burlington with Itabashi, Japan. In 1992, an Itabashi citizen donated several Sakura trees to the city, which are located in Spencer Smith Park.
These trees promote the city as a world community dedicated to the United Nations' philosophy of peaceful co-operation among people of the world. The trees celebrate the arrival of Spring each year bloom annually around the end of April and last up to 10 days.
